Under the direction of the City Attorney, assist in providing a variety of legal services. Work is performed with general discretion, working from broad goals and policies. The incumbent will provide legal counsel to elected and appointed officials, boards, commissions, committees, and City departments based on interpretation of federal, state, county, and city constitutions, charters, statutes, ordinances, resolutions, rules, regulations, court decisions, administrative law decisions, and other legal authority. This role drafts policies and provides guidance on economic development programs such as 380 agreements, land banks, TIRZs, and other community development initiatives. The Assistant City Attorney prepares and reviews ordinances, resolutions, and administrative policies. The incumbent also assists in land, right-of-way, and property acquisition and disposal on behalf of the City. The ideal candidate should be able to give legal counsel and analysis regarding local government corporations and municipal management entities, attend City Council meetings, render legal advice to City Council, and prepare or review various city contracts. Minimum qualifications include a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; admission to the State Bar of Texas, prior to application, and five years' experience with a state or local governmental entity. A Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting is preferred. A Texas Driver's License is required.
