Dallas man convicted of capital murder

A Dallas man will spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance for parole after admitting through his attorney to murder.

During closing arguments in Trandy Germaine Crew's capital murder trial, defense attorney Paul Johnson admitted to jurors that his client killed Elizabeth Avery execution-style during a confrontation at her Red Bird-area apartment in July 2006.

The Dallas County jury accepted Mr. Crew's admission – an attempt to get a lesser charge of murder – but sided with prosecutors and found him guilty of capital murder. Prosecutors alleged that Mr. Crew killed Ms. Avery, 30, because she could identify him as the man who had shot her boyfriend, Nicholas Early, minutes before.

Mr. Early, 28, survived being shot six times and identified Mr. Crew in court Wednesday as his assailant.
