EL PASO -- An alleged Barrio Azteca gang member convicted of murdering a 29-year-old man, who had been placed on a hit list after he left the gang, was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday.

David Fonseca Jr., 26, was found guilty in the June 26, 2005, fatal stabbing of Raul Esquivel.

Judge Bonnie Rangel sentenced Fonseca to life in prison for the murder, life in prison for one count of engaging in organized criminal activity and 90 years on two counts of aggravated assault in the stabbings of Jorge Montoya and Edgar Christobal.

Fonseca will be eligible for parole in 30 years, said his defense lawyers, Louis Lopez and Michael Blake.
