A Dallas man will spend the
rest of his life in prison with no chance for parole after admitting
through his attorney to murder.
During closing arguments
in Trandy Germaine Crew's capital murder trial, defense attorney Paul
Johnson admitted to jurors that his client killed Elizabeth Avery
execution-style during a confrontation at her Red Bird-area apartment
in July 2006.
The Dallas County jury accepted Mr. Crew's
admission – an attempt to get a lesser charge of murder – but sided
with prosecutors and found him guilty of capital murder. Prosecutors
alleged that Mr. Crew killed Ms. Avery, 30, because she could identify
him as the man who had shot her boyfriend, Nicholas Early, minutes
before.
Mr. Early, 28, survived being shot six times and identified Mr. Crew in court Wednesday as his assailant.
