A 48-year-old Corpus Christi man was found guilty of capital murder Wednesday and sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole in the stabbing death of his common-law wife.
Ray Galvan, also known as Ray Vacca, was accused of fatally stabbing 40-year-old Cynthia Peña on Dec. 22, 2007. A neighbor called 911 that morning after finding Peña lying in a pool of blood in the living room of her home in the 600 block of Lansdown Drive. A short time later, police were called to a convenience store by a clerk who reported seeing Galvan wearing bloody clothes.
According to testimony, police found Galvan in a nearby grocery store parking lot. After a brief standoff, Galvan, who was found holding a knife, was arrested. The arresting officer testified that Galvan made several statements about committing the crime.
