Assistant County Attorney
Reporting to and under guidance from the County Attorney. Represent the state in adult criminal prosecution, juvenile prosecution, protective orders, etc.; and assists police and other investigative agencies with matters involving prosecution. The Colorado County Attorney’s Office is an office with felony jurisdiction.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare cases for trial. Collects, organizes and prepares evidence, information and other legal materials.
- Draft briefs, motions, orders, subpoenas, contracts and other legal documents, as well as correspondence and reports
- Represent the state in Court – Takes depositions and responds to discovery requests. Oversee the creation and issuance of legal document, including subpoenas, motions, orders, writs, warrants, contracts, official policies and other related documents.
- Appear in various hearings and trials; which includes witness meetings, mediation, jury selection, legal research, victim conferences, questioning witnesses in trial, conferences with defense attorneys, arguments, opening and closing statements and drafting of motions and jury changes; and responds to appeals of final orders.
- Perform other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Requirements:
- J.D./LL.B from an accredited law school. (Salary dependent upon experience $80K-$105K)
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
- Jurisprudence, criminal and civil law and procedures, including constitutional and statutory law.
Skill in:
- Problem-solving and decision-making.
- Analyzing and appraising facts, policies, procedures, and legal precedents in area of specialty.
- Both verbal and written communication, including presentations.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Work independently.
- Manage time well and perform multiple tasks, and organize diverse activities.
- Work well under pressure and exercise tact in trying situations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental clientele, representatives of outside agencies, other County employees and officials, and the public.
