Assistant County Attorney – Civil

The Angelina County Attorney’s Office has an opening for an assistant county attorney.  The primary focus of the position will be assisting the County Attorney with civil and county government legal matters.

Duties include advising County officials and staff, drafting and reviewing contracts, policies and other documents related to the business of the County.  Public Information requests, Open Meetings Act compliance, mental health commitments, bond forfeitures and attending Commissioner’s Court meetings as needed.  Assist in representing Angelina County and the State of Texas in a variety of contested civil cases. Additional duties may also be assigned, from time to time, in connection with the criminal prosecution responsibilities of the office.

Applicants should be licensed to practice law in the state of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.  However, recent law school graduates, awaiting either bar exam results or to take the bar, will also be considered.   

Salary for the position is $98,812.00.  A portion of this salary ($10,000.00) is funded by the Rural Prosecutor Salary Assistance Grant Program. 

The position carries full county benefits, including retirement, paid vacation, and health insurance.  Bar dues, TDCAA membership and CLE are also included.
