Job Title: Assistant County Attorney – Criminal Prosecution

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for legal tasks related both directly and indirectly to the prosecution of all misdemeanor and all juvenile cases (felony and misdemeanor), revocations, appeals, post-conviction writs and civil forfeitures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
♦ Perform case intake for Class A and Class B misdemeanors
♦ Prosecute Class A & Class B misdemeanors cases County Court at Law, County Court at Law #2, and County Court.
♦ Prosecute County Court Mental & Class C Criminal Appeals
♦ Prosecute Justice of the Peace Courts – Class C Criminal & Truancies Cases
♦ Advise County Departments Heads
♦ Prosecute felony and misdemeanor Juvenile Cases
♦ Act as DA Pro Tem when requested by District Judges
♦ Plea Negotiations, Trials and Appellate work
Other requirements include duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and skill required of the job.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
♦ Graduate of accredited law school and be licensed by Supreme Court of Texas
♦ Valid Texas driver’s license and pass a criminal background and drug test.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
♦ Interpersonal communication skills to work with public, law enforcement, and victims.
♦ Strong negotiation and settlement skills.
♦ Must be dependable, detail oriented, and able to maintain confidentiality with cases.
♦ Computer and typing skills.
♦ Ability to efficiently operate office equipment.
♦ Ability to associate with all County departments in a professional manner.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Hours are generally Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Occasional travel is necessary for CLE and/or court.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Generally, this position requires light lifting, usually less than 10 lbs. but can be up to 25 lbs. This position requires some standing, bending, stooping and stretching.
