Assistant County & District Attorney

The Rusk County & District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for an Assistant County & District Attorney.  The position will be available beginning June 1, 2024.   

All applicants must be licensed to practice law in Texas by that date and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Applicants must demonstrate a strong understanding of the Texas Rules of Professional Responsibility and the ethics required of a Texas Prosecutor.

Duties will include handling any matters which may arise in the course of duty in the office of a County & District Attorney, including misdemeanors, felonies, juvenile prosecution, civil matters and any other matter that may be assigned. This particular position will focus on the prosecution of child sex assault cases and child protective services cases. Other matters may be assigned to the successful applicant as necessary.

Prior experience in is helpful but not required.  The candidate selected will be provided with plenty of training and opportunity to grow as a trial attorney and as a lawyer.  Preferred candidates will have 2 years of general criminal trial experience or one year of prosecution experience.

Starting Salary:  $72,474.00 per year plus county benefits as offered at this time.  State Bar dues, TDCAA dues, and CLE also included.
