Assistant District Attorney

The Leon County District Attorney’s Office, is accepting applications for an Assistant District Attorney.  The District Attorney’s office is responsible for all felony cases in Leon County. The Assistant District Attorney will be working on all level of felony cases from State Jail felonies to Sexual Assaults and Capital Murders. The county seat and office is located in Centerville, Texas. Centerville is centrally located between Dallas and Houston. Nearby cities are Huntsville and Bryan/College Station.

Leon County has three district courts. Each court has a monthly trial docket. This position will give the opportunity to gain significant trial experience.

The Assistant District Attorney will be responsible for reviewing assigned intake cases and managing an assigned caseload from indictment to final resolution, including appeal.  Caseload management will include, in part, investigating and evaluating cases, preparing for and attending pre-trial and trial proceedings, negotiating plea agreements, interviewing witnesses and victims in preparation for trial, and drafting appeals.  

All levels of experience may apply including those awaiting bar exam results.  The position is currently open. Applicant must be a graduate of an A.B.A. accredited law school.

The salary for this position is up to $110,000 and includes benefits such as health insurance, along with participation in the Texas District and County Retirement System, with bar dues, TDCAA membership, and approved CLE paid by the office.
