Assistant District Attorney, Criminal Division- Ellis County & District Attorney’s Office

The Ellis County & District Attorney elect, Lindy Beaty, is accepting applications for Assistant District Attorneys for both entry level misdemeanor prosecutors and experienced felony criminal prosecutors.  The positions will be officially open January 2, 2025.  The Ellis County & District Attorney’s Office- Criminal Division handles criminal case prosecutions from Class C Misdemeanor through Capital Felonies.  Positions will be filled based on experience and qualifications.

Positions and Salary

  • ADA I- Salary $82,303.00
  • ADA II- Salary $113,428.00
  • ADA III- Salary $125,054.00
  • ADA IV- Salary $137,872.00
  • ADA V- Salary $152,004.00
  • ADA VI- $167,584.00

Primary Duties

  • Seek Justice on behalf of the State of Texas in all matters handled by the Ellis County & District Attorney’s Office.
  • Manage an assigned caseload effectively and efficiently.
  • Identify potential issues in assigned cases and take measures to deal with those issues including simple and complex legal matters. 
  • Work closely with law enforcement agencies both within and outside Ellis County.   
  • Effectively correspond and communicate with victims, defense attorneys, court personnel and witnesses.
  • Conduct legal research, draft motions, respond to defense motions, and prepare other legal documents.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, law enforcement, the general public.
  • Interview victims, witnesses, law enforcement officers and experts before hearings or trial.
  • Handle in Court hearings including bond hearings, writ hearings, competency hearings suppression hearings, etc.
  • Handle trials before the Court and jury trials including pre-trial hearings, jury selection, opening statements, evidence admission predicate, preparing a jury charge, closing arguments, etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have a JD from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in the State if Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass background investigation and drug testing upon request.
