Job Description

Examines, compares, and evaluates geolocation evidence in legal matters requiring specialization technical work in the analysis, preparation, and presentation of exhibits and demonstrative aids. Acts as a subject matter expert, presents oral and/or written reports, and testifies as an expert witness in court proceedings.

Responsibilities

  •  Identifies, extracts, and analyzes location data from diverse sources, including but not limited to cell phones, tablets, vehicles, drones, cameras, Google location data, smart watches, smart trackers (e.g., air tags), navigation systems, smart apps, and healthcare monitors.
  •  Gathers and scrutinizes location data from various sources to establish the presence of devices at specific locations during relevant times related to criminal cases.
  •  Evaluates and interprets location data, ensuring its accuracy and reliability. Verifies the authenticity of the data and presents validated findings in a clear and precise manner.
  •  Effectively communicates and presents geolocation analysis results to prosecutors, judges, courts, and juries. Translates technical details into understandable and compelling narratives.
  •  Provide technical assistance for cell phones, tablets, location trackers and various other geolocation devices and user errors for the department.
  •  May testify as an expert witness in indictment and trials
  •  Stay abreast of technological advancements and continuously updates skills to maintain expertise in the field. Adapts and applies new skills to enhance investigative techniques through continuing education.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training:

Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, digital forensics, criminal justice, business, information systems, or other job-related field of study.

Three (3) years of work related experience.

Special Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Knowledge of standard software applications. Experience in data analysis, particularly within the context of criminal cases. Ability to successfully analyze and present geolocation data. Certification as a Cellular Technology Subject Matter Expert required within one year of employment date. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other technical mapping application tools. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Able to be on-call 24/7.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

Normal office environment. May require prolonged sitting. Requires the ability to travel to view crime scenes. Periodically requires lifting up to 25 lbs.
