SALARY: $115K+

The Wharton County District Attorney’s Office is in search of a full-time prosecutor dedicated to interpersonal violence cases in felony and, occasionally, misdemeanor court. This position is funded by a grant that is closely managed by the First Assistant and will likely become a permanent position within the office after some time. Position is available immediately and duties will depend upon experience and responsiveness to training. Wharton is located 35 miles southwest of Sugar Land, Texas, approximately a 30-minute drive from Richmond on Hwy 59. The office currently consists of the elected district attorney, three assistant district attorneys, one investigator and five support staff members.  Our office plans to expand even further in the coming months.

This is a perfect opportunity for a lawyer who is passionate about interpersonal violence cases, including crimes involving victims, crimes against children, domestic violence crimes, and murders. This person must be organized, motivated, and a team player.  Moderate felony trial experience is ideal, but a strong misdemeanor trial record will be considered. 

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Review and evaluate new incoming cases
  • Perform legal research
  • Preparing for hearings and trials
  • Appearances in County and two Felony Courts
  • Establish and maintain an effective professional working relationship with District Attorney office personnel, other county employees and officials, court personnel, private attorneys, and the general public.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school
  • Must be licensed and in good standing with the State of Texas.  
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
