Position: 1st Assistant District Attorney- Experienced Felony Prosecutor
Location: Clay, Archer, and Montague Counties (Home office Montague County)
Salary: Starting at $100,000.00 (plus Benefits) upward adjustment available based on experience
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (Additional Hours may be required/necessary)

General Description: Serve as the First Assistant District Attorney-Prosecutor in Clay, Archer, and Montague Counties. If you are looking for a place to continue trying cases, while having good juries and the flexibility within a great small office environment than this is a position to consider.
Essential Duties:
- Represent the State of Texas in all matters handled by the DA’s office
- Supervise other Assistant District Attorney(s)
- Case intake: review and process case packets for criminal cases filed by law enforcement agencies and determine how to proceed with the case- including presenting cases to the Grand Jury.
- Attend all court settings and hearings in the three counties, conduct discussions and plea bargain negotiations, properly prepare cases that are assigned to them to proceed through the court process including presentation to the grand jury, bond hearings, pretrial hearings, trial and appeal, revocation hearings and must be able to evaluate cases appropriately and stays current on the law.
- Must be able to counsel law enforcement
- Must conduct oneself in a professional manner and demonstrate respect for the Court, staff and the general public.
- Review assigned cases in a reasonable time frame, request additional information, subpoena material documents, prepare and file motions timely, respond to defense requests timely and thoroughly.
- Be available to court personnel, victims, witnesses, defendants, defense attorneys, and other criminal justice personnel.
- Competently prepares for and tries cases, including witness preparation, preparing trial documents/notebooks/exhibits, jury charges and appeals.
- Competently prepares all papers including statements of fact for Defendants sentenced to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system.
- Complies with the rules, regulations, and policies of the District Attorney’s Office, and any and any written or oral directives of his/her supervisor and the Texas Code of Professional Responsibility.
- Timely files, responds and handles forfeiture cases.
- Performs all other job-related duties assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an A.B.A accredited law school
- Must have a license to practice law in the State of Texas and be in good standing with the State and local bar associations.
- Must have experience and a working knowledge of criminal law, criminal procedure, and the Criminal rules of evidence.
- Must have high integrity and a professional demeanor and must be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with visitors, clients, co-workers, law enforcement, attorneys, judges, staff, and county officials.
- Must be familiar with the principles of legal research and writing and be able to evaluate complex legal issues.
- Must be able to analyze facts and case precedents and present them effectively in court.
- Must pass a pre-employment background and drug test
- Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in high-pressure situations and use good judgment and common sense.
- Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the 97th District Attorney’s office and local law enforcement agency.
- Must have 1st chair Felony trial experience
Conditions of Employment:
- Regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
- Must be dependable and of good moral character.
- Must be willing to travel to the all three offices in the 97th Judicial District in Clay, Archer, and Montague counties (there is mileage reimbursement for Clay and Archer Counties).
