Chief Investigator

The Harris County Attorney's Office represents the County, its departments, elected and appointed officials, and employees in all civil matters that involve county business. The Office also represents the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in cases involving abused or neglected children. The Office employs about 105 attorneys and 116 non-attorneys.  The current investigator staff consists of nine investigators one of whom is the chief.

The Office is accepting applications for the position of chief investigator which we wish to have filled by the beginning of 2018.

Summary of the job, including general nature and broad functions:

Under the direction of the County Attorney and First Assistant, this person manages a team of law enforcement officers responsible for providing investigative support services for the lawyers throughout the office.  This person also performs specifically delegated substantive investigative work. Such work requires a sufficient knowledge of legal principles and procedures as well as necessary contacts in the law enforcement community to perform in-depth investigations.

Educational/Licensure requirements:   Master Peace Officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement; A minimum of 10 years of investigative experience in a law enforcement setting; Supervisory experience with 5 or more direct reports preferred; Current firearms certification; Valid Texas driver’s license.  Must pass County Attorney background check.

Skill requirements:  Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;

Physical demands and working environment:  Work is performed primarily indoors; requires heavy local travel and may, on occasion, require out-of-state travel; may be exposed to potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, and a remote possibility of exposure to infectious diseases.

Salary commensurate with experience but anticipated to begin in the $100,000 per year range.
